Welcome Michelle R. Eastman, Children's Book Author | Guest Post

Today I’d like to welcome Michelle R. Eastman to my blog!  She is the author of the new children’s picture book The Legend of Dust Bunnies, a Fairy’s Tale. The illustrations look absolutely adorable and the story is helping kids realize that we all have unique gifts and not everyone fits in with the crowd.

The Legend of Dust Bunnies, a Fairy's Tale
The Legend of Dust Bunnies, a Fairy’s Tale — Join the Dust Fairies on their messy nighttime adventures, and discover how one misfit fairy uses his talent to create something legendary. His story will have families looking at dust bunnies in a new light and may actually give kids an excuse NOT to clean their rooms.

Michelle began her career as an elementary teacher in the West Des Moines School District. At Iowa Public Television, she wrote educational content for teachers and students in 200 school districts. When she’s not chasing dust bunnies, or her two cats, she likes to cuddle up with a good book and her son. Her family lives in Waukee, Iowa.

And because Michelle is not only smart and talented but kind and patient, she indulged me in answering some of my nosy questions:

I asked: What children’s book do you like and would recommend I read?
Michelle answered: I can’t make it through Robert Munsch’s Love You Forever without bawling.

I asked: What is your favorite dessert? (I’m not judging, but the answer should always be ice-cream…haha.)
Michelle answered: That’s like a mother choosing her favorite child. Cadbury Eggs never disappoint.

I asked: What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Michelle answered: Join SCBWI. Join Goodreads. Blog about books or what really interests you. Connect with and support fellow authors. Do NOT make marketing your book your top priority (I know, it sounds crazy). Running through the streets, heralding the fabulous-ness of my book is tempting, but it doesn’t work. Consider your long-term plan for success. Make genuine connections with like-minded people.

I asked: What does your writing process look like?
Michelle answered: It is very messy and involves lots and lots of notepads, sticky-notes, and coffee.

Thank you, Michelle, for being a guest on my blog today!

Happy reading, everyone!
